SKC Constitution

The Constitution of the Souhegan Kennel Club as given here is copied from the pamphlet "Souhegan Kennel Club, Inc. Constitution, By-Laws and Code of Ethics as approved December 20, 2000" and might contain typos or other errors.   For a correct and up-to-date copy of the Constitution contact a member of the SKC Board of Directors.

Section 1.  The name of the Club shall be the Souhegan Kennel Club, Inc.

Section 2.  The objects of the Club shall be:

(a)  To protect and advance the interests of all breeds of purebred dogs and to encourage sportsman-like competition at matches, dog shows, agility trials, obedience trials, and tracking tests;

(b)  To conduct sanctioned matches, all-breed shows, agility trials, obedience trials, and tracking tests under the rules of the American Kennel Club.

Section 3.  The Club is incorporated under the laws of the State of New Hampshire as a non-profit organization.   It shall not be conducted or operated for profit and no part of any profits or remainder or residue from dues or donations to the Club shall inure to the benefit of any member or individual.

Section 4.  The members of the Club shall adopt and may from time to time revise such By-Laws as may be required to carry out these objectives.

Section 5.  This Constitution may be amended in any manner consistent with the Articles of Agreement, in the following manner:

(a) Amendments to the Constitution may be proposed by the Board of Directors or by a written petition addressed to the Corresponding Secretary which is signed by twenty percent of the members in good standing. Amendments proposed by such petition shall be promptly considered by the Board of Directors and must be submitted to the members with the recommendations of the Board by the Corresponding Secretary for a vote within three months of the date when the petition was received by the Corresponding Secretary.

(b)  The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present and voting at any regular or special meeting called for the purpose, provided the proposed amendments have been included in the notice of the meeting and mailed to the members at least two weeks prior to the date of the meeting.
